Screenwriter’s Speaker Series

Monthly and Quarterly Programs for Storytellers

The New Mexico Screenwriter’s Speaker Series: Our goal is to provide consistent and affordable education for New Mexican writers interested in fostering and developing a writing career in the various fields of the entertainment industry through nationally recognized writers and instructors. These events are designed to accommodate all levels of experience.

Monthly programs will be three hour sessions on Saturday mornings covering specific aspects of storytelling. Some of the topics will also include writing for animation, writing for documentaries, episodic television, reality television, etc. Some monthly programs will be specific to the business side of the writer’s life: finding an agent and manager, negotiating a deal, how to sell a spec script over the internet, etc.

The first monthly program is Saturday, June 4th (9:30 am – 12:30 pm) with WGA member Deborah L. Smith on at Rio Grande Studios on 6608 Gulton Ct., NE.   Quarterly programs will be intensive, full day events with nationally recognized leaders on the craft of screenwriting. Prices to be determined by speaker. Student and teacher discounts will be available.  The first quarterly program is slated for July 23rd, with noted Los Angeles screenwriting teacher Jim Mercurio (www.jamespmercurio.com). Mercurio is also a contributing writer and columnist for Creative Screenwriting Magazine (www.creativescreenwriting.com).
