Local short film “The Decision” is headed for Cannes film festival in France

“The Decision”, written, produced and directed by Gloria Martinez, a 12:16 minute short film, is in attendance in this years “Short Film Corner” in Cannes, France, May 14th-25th, 2008.  This is Gloria’s first “in the can” film and it is headed to the festival under her production company’s name, Captive Entertainment, LLC.

Gloria started her company to make productions that display her unique style and
creativity. Her passion is in writing and directing but has also worked on numerous short productions in New Mexico to gain experience and give back to others.  She is also a member of Friends of Film, NM Women in Film, and NALIP.

In The Decision, Ryan Maestas (played by Joe M. Gallegos Jr.) tries to come to terms with the death of his mother. In an odd turn of events, Ryan runs into his mother’s old friend, Veronica Gonzales (played by Maria Sigmon) just as he is pushed by the gang leader (played by Jesus Jr.) to do his job so he can get initiated into the gang. As events
build, secrets are reviled, and a confused Ryan must make a split second life saving decision!

One of the things Gloria brought to her film was local music.  She enlisted the assistance of SkyLimit Music, a local on-line music library, to help her find a sound that would work for her project.  The Decision tells a lot of story in a short amount of time, so what could not be spoken with words is said with music.  Astra Kelly’s, song “How Long” lyrics’ made this bridge a rich fusion of acoustic soul.  Composer James Lay wrote three songs lending
to the hip-hop feel of the movie’s story line.

Gloria will be traveling with her film to Cannes to promote it to film distributors and
investors looking for projects.  She currently has a full-length version in the works as well as another full-feature (Conditions), which is currently in numerous screenplay competitions.
