Archetype Studios Presents

Archetype Studios is proud to present its first production, a staged reading of David Mamet’s Lakeboat, one night only – Sunday, April 3rd, 2005 at 7:00pm at the Santa Fe Playhouse.  Suggested donation $10.

Lakeboat is a funny, challenging, and sophisticated play about unsophisticated people – blue collar workers aboard a cargo ship on the Great Lakes,” says Edna Riley, who is directing, and is also the Artistic Director of Archetype Studios.  “This is one of Mamet’s first plays and it has the profanity, the quick dialogue, the machismo that one expects. However, I like this play because there is room for interpretation within his words, which makes it fun for the actors.  There is also a depth to this piece which I enjoy exploring as a director.” Artistic Director and Producer Edna Riley started Archetype Studios late last year in order to provide more performance opportunities for Santa Fe’s actors, directors, and other theater artists.  “I have already started a reading group for actors who would like to expand their knowledge of theatrical literature, both classic and contemporary.  I am planning more staged readings, a scene study group for actors, and full productions as the company grows.” Edna Riley has an extensive list of production credits from her work in the Northeast at such theaters as the Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, LaMama ETC, and the Berkshire Theater Festival. The cast of Lakeboat features local actors: Bob DeFrank, Christopher Hagen, Barry Hazen, Jon Hudson, Grady Hughes, Aaron Leventman, Dave Merriman, and David Villanueva. For more information and reservations, contact Archetype Studios at (505) 690-6397.
