The Santa Fe Opera presents One Hour Opera
The Night Bell by Donizetti throughout June. (505) 986-5955
For the second year running, The Santa Fe Opera will present a fully staged production of a delightfully short one hour opera. After last year’s great success with the staging of Bizet’s Dr. Miracle at El Museo Cultural, this year The Santa Fe Opera will bring to the general public Donizetti’s charming masterpiece entitled The Night Bell. Composed in just ten days in 1836, this little gem of an opera is brimming with classic comedy and unforgettable tunes. The story revolves around the lovely Serafina, a bride in danger of truly becoming a wife of the decades-older apothecary Don Annibale. The shenanigans of the love-sick Enrico form the basis of the plot, as he attempts in every imaginable way to obstruct Don Annibale and retain Serafina’s virtue for himself. A fantastic comic duet between the baritone and bass-baritone is sure to produce side-splitting laughter. With performances from former Santa Fe Opera apprentices, Serafina will be sung by the vibrant soprano Anya Matanovic, the versatile baritone Sean Anderson will sing Enrico, and the dynamic Ricardo Lugo is Don Annibale. New Mexico talent will also be included: soprano Samantha Talmadge and bass-baritone Ethan Edwards Smith from Albuquerque, mezzo-soprano Alicia Solomon from Los Alamos, and tenor Andre Garcia-Nuthmann from Las Vegas will round out the cast.
All performances will be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 463 Paseo de Peralta, throughout June. Performance schedule is as follows:
