FUSION presents a Wilde ride of a Mamet Festival!

4/24-5/18, Thur-Sat at 8pm & Sun at 2 pm. Mamet Festival: same times, 5/22-25.

FUSION Theatre Company, Albuquerque’s own professional theatre company, continues its 2007/8 Brave New World season with a special Mamet Festival, anchored by the regional premiere of the master American playwright’s unusual and witty Boston Marriage. Opening night at The Cell Theatre, Thursday April 24, features an opening reception at 7 pm with an 8 pm curtain.
David Mamet, writer of such greats as Oleanna and Glengarry Glen Ross, finds an utterly unique approach as he fuses the raw syncopated power of his “Mametspeak” with the elegant, acerbic wit of an Oscar Wilde. Mamet creates a Victorian era piece that provides a brilliant comedic vehicle for its principal actors while challenging our own contemporary social mores and assumptions. Albuquerque favorite Robb Sisneros directs.

It’s clear that Mamet is having a ball turning back the clock to be Wilde-ly witty and at the same time indulging his penchant for less refined language. What’s more underneath all that mannered and clever repartee, Anna and Claire are as much like the scam-sters in American Buffalo as Gwendolyn and Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest.” – Elyse Sommer, Curtain Up
