Casting Call: Senderistas 

Jim Finn (director/producer) is casting for 15-20 Native American women

for his film. Most should be between the ages of 16-28, and he needs a

few in their 30s and 40s. He also needs the same number of Hispanic

women. If possible, Native Navajo or other native language speakers

would be ideal. The film will be shot in Spanish and native languages

though some women will not speak. Begins filming in NM 8/7–31, 06

Senderistas, is about the political community of women prisoners from

the Shining Path in Peru in the 1980s. The film is based on the limited

video documentation of their activities and interviews with the women and

research materials about revolutionary groups in the 70s and 80s in South

America. By the mid 1980s, the radical and notoriously brutal Maoist guerrilla

group founded by Abimael Guzmán had the highest number of women fighters

and commanders of any guerrilla group in Latin American history.
